Mountain #9 of #EpicRace -- Kirkwood

Today we headed over to Kirkwood for mountain #9 of this #EpicRace adventure. I had no idea how exhausted I was until we were able to sleep in our own bed last night and I was zonked out for 9 hours straight. But alas, no rest for the weary as the challenge continues.  We had a leisurely start to our day and didn't get to the resort until after noon. It was a nice 50 degree spring, I mean winter day. We brought Bondi along so she could enjoy the day with us.

Kirkwood was definitely lacking in the snow department and only had one lift running.  Plus, it was ridiculously warm out, so I decided to only ski a couple runs before heading back to the car to get the dog. She LOVES the snow and it was the first time she had seen skiers on the mountain. Due to the lack of snow though, it was a bit difficult to get this photo/video challenge done since none of the on mountain checkpoints were accessible and only 2 out of the 4 items at the base were available. So we improvised a bit.

For the photo/video challenge at Kirkwood, we completed the following checkpoints:

1) With the statue of Kit Carson in the village.

2) Next to Fireplace in the Kirkwood Inn.

3) The warming hut located in the center of the meadow XC loop.

Luckily since we live in Tahoe, we can easily come back to Kirkwood later in the season once the snow has arrived. Mountain #9 complete! Only 3 more resorts left in the US to check off before we head to Europe!
