Mountain #18 of #EpicRace -- Verbier

Monday, December 16, 2013

Welcome to Switzerland! After we wrapped up everything in Austria, we had a 5 hour drive to Verbier, Switzerland.  Unfortunately it was quite foggy the entire time so we couldn't see much along the way, but it cleared up as soon as we were back in the mountains.

Not much to see along the drive...
Verbier is this village that is WAY up the side of the mountain and you have to drive this crazy road full of switchbacks up to it.  It is also a very expensive town. We were pretty exhausted from all the skiing/driving, so we did not do much when we arrived other than find dinner (more pasta) and watch a movie back at the hotel.

The next morning, we ran into two of our EpicRacer friends at the tourist office as we were getting our stamps and so we ended up spending the day skiing with them.  Verbier has some outstanding views -- dare I say even better than Austria if that's possible.

Just like all of the other resorts we've skied so far, they are in desperate need of snow, and as a result, not a lot of terrain was open.  We still had fun exploring as many open lifts as we could though. Can't really complain too much when it's a bright bluebird day and you're spending your day skiing at one of the world's top ski destinations.

We didn't get to spend too much time in town as it was time to get back in the car and head off to France for the final leg of the trip. Probably for the better though -- Verbier was way to pricey!

For the photo/video requirements at Verbier, we checked off the following:

1) Top of Mont-Fort (unfortunately this is only open on the weekends, so we took a picture at the base of the lift instead).

2) La Chaux (Restaurant Dahu)

3) The 1936 Bar
